GeoNetwork opensource Workshop - April 2006
The workshop has been organized by the FAO Environment and Natural Resources Service (SDRN) and WFP Vulnerability Analysis and Mapping (VAM) Unit to promote communication among all the staff (users, developers and managers) involved in the GeoNetwork project coming from different UN Agencies such as FAO, WFP, UNEP, WHO, OCHA and UNHCR, as well as strategic partners including CGIAR, FEWSNET, GMES, ESA, FGDC and Dutch and Czech national partners.
The core of the workshop consisted of two days of dedicated sessions on: 1) assessment of achieved results from current GeoNetwork nodes; 2) presentations by new partners; 3) establishment of a steering committee; 4) discussion of new GeoNetwork requirements, work plan formulation with a common strategy for new implementations and developments for the coming year.
Within the framework of the workshop has been organized a one-day hands-on technical session based on the use, installation and customization of GeoNetwork version 2, three technical, one-day sessions introducing the software MapServer, GeoServer and uDig, and, in parallel, a joint ESA-FAO-JRC workshop to discuss issues related to "catalogue/discovery standardization".

The first of the two days was hosted by FAO, arranged to discuss the wider areas of interoperability. The second day of the workshop was a more focused session concentrating on the core HMA interfaces with the goal of allowing HMA project partners to conclude on the result of the first day of the workshop, and to review and refine the HMA schemas and protocols.
